A digitization project cannot be approached from an exclusively technological point of view. Business Process Re-design is a crucial aspect if the benefits of the dematerialization and digitization solution are to be fully achieved. It is not enough to eliminate the paper and leave the flow of activities unchanged. If this approach were followed, there would be partial benefits related solely to the efficiency of existing activities, but it would crystallize a process constrained by practices dictated solely by the needs of the paper flow and analog information.
The Technology Design component of a dematerialization project involves some crucial aspects that need to be assessed before the paperless implementation process. The assessment cannot only be regulatory, but must respond to a careful analysis of the impacts on the stakeholder experience. The most correct solution will be the least complex for the user and sufficient to meet the standard of a specific document process.

The advantages of this are to change the order of some process steps to reduce lead times associated with the completion of paperwork, making the process more efficient for the worker and postponing some back office steps.
